Being that Orlando was only an hour and a half away from Melbourne, our early morning departure paid off big time. As we rolled into Melbourne proper in the mid afternoon we immediately headed for the nearest beach. Parked the van and we jumped out in a frenzy. The idea of even entertaining the thought swimming in November wassuch a foreign concept to all of us at that point. With our feet on the boardwalk and the fresh salty air permeating our lungs we ran towards what may have been the closest thing to a shower any of us would see that tour (gross).
The beach was nearly deserted, probably due to the fact that it was November and only five assholes from Chicago would consider that opportune swimming time. Wave after crashing wave pummeled the beach and our souls as we swam and attempted to body surf. Some of the waves were getting up to five feet. Craziness.
Absolute monsters, they were. We spent a few hours there having some of the most legitimate fun we’d had in awhile. The water temperature itself was surprisingly warm for the season, although we were later told that the fall brings along warmer currents in the Melbourne area.
After the dip we smashed some hot dogs and headed over to the legendary Cassette House. Cassette house was a three year strong d.i.y. space in Melbourne originally founded by members of cassettes on fire.
A relatively modest sized place (okay it was SMALL) located on the second floor of a small little art gallery and what may have been a nail salon on its’ own little plot of land near some train tracks and about a quarter mile away from City Hall (whose sign we so lovely adorned with a coping sticker). Unfortunately most of the space’s inhabitants were transplanting themselves to Orlando bringing on the impending demise of the space. Talking with the local kids and members of the house, it was clear that the house had a real special connection with the scene. Many were concerned that a better house couldn’t be possible.
We played with all the bands from Orlando as well as Caution Children and a few others who sounded great (things definitely go hazy). With an enormous amount of people playing the show it certainly ended up going pretty late. The turnout was fantastic and it seemed like everyone had a pretty great, if slightly emotionally tinged time. After the show everyone sort of just hung out in the living room and told stories of their funniest/best memories of the place-it certainly was an easy primer for us to play catch up on it’s history.

Flashlights
Good night morning.
We made it to Florida, the quintessential American vacation relaxation destination. The evening’s show was booked at Substance Art Gallery, a relatively new space that had sprung up amongst the few various other small bars and restaurants on what appeared to be a pretty popular strip in the city.
The space itself had a cozy charm to it-plenty of works of local art hanging on the walls amongst a few well placed modern furniture items all cast within the reflective light of the skull shaped disco ball. We were glad to see that like ourselves, the place didn’t take itself too seriously. Even more welcoming was the beer bar in the back (apparently it’s pretty easy to get a beer permit rather than a full liquor permit in Florida) fully stocked with a great selection. The owner of the space proceeded to simultaneously tend bar and do sound for the entirety of the evening-you can guess which one suffered slightly.

We were joined by the likes of Ghost Aviary, Gillian carter, and Flashlights. We were immediately stoked on the hospitality and enthusiasm of these guys (and girl). As regular patrons and performers at Substance, they were able to bring out a bunch of their friends and made us feel extremely welcomed.

After the show flashlights took us to a party boy gay bar which was pretty awesome. Many beers and rounds of pool ensued with Terry and Tom reigning supreme dominance over all. Will put us up for the evening at his rad place.

Forever sing the blues
We fell asleep pretty quickly with Melbourne beaches on the brain.
Vortex Burgers, Atlanta. Allegedly the Kuma’s of Georgia…Although their burgers were pretty phenomenal (whiskey pimento cheese, much more then a reasonable amount of bacon, 1/2 pound patties grilled to perfection) they just simply could not compete with the champions.
Delicious local beer on tap via Sweet Leaf brewing company called the 4:20 EPA. Good stuff.
We played at Wonder Root, a 5013c non profit multi functional art center that was kind enough to host the show. The building itself was pretty understated in a nice way. Little hints of the inside activities could be found around the premises on various painted wooden pallets-this was an art gallery, a show space, a screen printing facility, and everything else you can think of. Above the show space upstairs the gallery had some pretty rad artist prints, both digital and screened, some for sale and some you couldn’t have regardless of what you were willing to pay. In the corner was an old cigarette vending machine rehabilitated to dispense “mini art snacks”. Boxes of postage stamp sized drawings, etc all available for a dollar here and there. A neat idea…although I didn’t purchase any.
We’ve been on the road since 11 am this morning making our way through Florida to Orlando. The weather has lightened up, the shorts are on and we’re ready for the land of senior citizens and oranges.

Seven lanes of barely crawling traffic headed into Atlanta. Here we were thinking the Dan Ryan was bad…
As I type this, we are en route to Bowling Green (outside Louisville, KY) to play our first show of tour tonight. We’re excited. 8 hours in the car today has got us ready to go.
Tour dates posted below. I’ll be trying to update this the next day after each show with a little on the bands we played with, the spaces we we played and stayed, and the rad and bad cats we meet.

Last night we played a pretty fun show at The Empty Bottle. Thanks to all the friends that came out and the rest of the bands we played with, especially Cloud Mouth! Good times…After numerous dollar beers we decided it would be a good idea to start a blog for the band so we can keep ya posted on what we’re up to…if you give a flying fuck.
Soon we will begin demo tracking some new songs. We’ve played a few of them live more than once now so it’s about time we started moving forward in the direction of something tangible.
I will now stop typing here so I can go smoke dope and play road rash.
